Australia 108 to begin construction in 2015


Construction of one of the tallest building in the southern hemisphere will start in mid 2015 in Southbank, following development approval for a second time by planning minister Matthew Guy.

Planning Minister Matthew Guy has approved another tranche of skyscrapers in Melbourne's CBD, including what he says is the first 100-storey building in the southern hemisphere.


The approvals have led the state opposition to question the speed with which Mr Guy is approving high-rise towers for central Melbourne.

In a move reminiscent of "super Tuesday" in February this year, when Mr Guy signed off on another group of five towers, Mr Guy on Thursday announced he had approved three high-rise buildings, including the 319-metre tall Australia 108 in Southbank.
