A missing M16 assault rifle that was unaccounted for during a recent inventory at the Melbourne Police Department has been found.
It was at the home of an officer.
The rifle has been issued to the officer in the past, but "due to an oversight in equipment issuance and inventory procedures it was missed in the audit," the police department said.
It has been returned to the police department.
