FIORENTE has won the race that stops a nation, finally giving Gai Waterhouse her first-ever Melbourne Cup win.



The favourite beat out 2011 runner-up Red Cadeaux and Mount Athos to win the $6.2 million race, giving racing's first lady her maiden win after finishing as the bridesmaid on three previous occasions.
