MOLLY Meldrum has urged music fans to sign a petition to get a Melbourne laneway named after Chrissy Amphlett.
The petition to honour the late Divinyls singer, who hailed from Geelong, closes at midnight tonight.
Amphlett's husband Charley Drayton and cousin Patricia Thompson (Little Pattie) will present the petition to Melbourne City Council tomorrow.
"It would be a fitting tribute," Meldrum said of the proposal for a Chrissy Amphlett Laneway. "We've already got an AC/DC Lane in Melbourne and Chrissy was another act who learnt the ropes playing in the Melbourne music scene. Chrissy was an amazing artist, coming from Geelong and spending her early days in Melbourne, she opened so many doors for other female performers here and around the world with the huge success of the Divinyls. It would be nice to honour that in Melbourne."
Over 5000 people from all over the world have already signed the petition including actor Noah Taylor, Baby Animals singer Suze DeMarchi and Divinyls bandmate Rick Grossman.
The petition states "Chrissy Amphlett loved Melbourne and it would be wonderful for her family, friends and admirers all over the world to have a special space dedicated to her in this famously musical city."
Melbourne is already home to an AC/DC Lane, honouring the city where the band honed their craft in the early 1970s.
Meldrum will attend a private memorial for Amphlett in Melbourne tonight, attended by other friends and family.
A tribute concert, raising money for MS, took place in Yarraville last Saturday.
Little Patti, Fiona Lee Maynard, Rebecca Barnard, Jane Clifton and Kerri Simpson were among those who performed at the event at the Yarraville Club.
Amphlett passed away in April after a long fight with both breast cancer and multiple sclerosis.
