A suspended Victoria police officer has appeared in court on 10 charges including trafficking cocaine and transmitting a photograph of a police shooting victim.

Constable Dean Gibbs, 26, appeared briefly in Melbourne Magistrates Court on Monday morning before his case was adjourned until May 20.

Constable Gibbs is charged with trafficking cocaine in Malvern in November and December last year, possession of ecstasy and possession of Viagra without a valid prescription.

He has been charged with one count of releasing a photograph of a police shooting victim who was in hospital to a woman's mobile phone via an MMS and is alleged to have stolen a can of pepper spray from police.

He is also charged with failing to securely store .38 ammunition.

The court heard the prosecution and defence were close to resolving the matter.

Constable Gibbs was arrested last year as part of Taskforce Echo, which was formed to crack down on outlaw motorcycle gangs. Three other men were also arrested.
