A Melbourne man hid millions of dollars and a luxury car from his wife during a divorce in an attempt stop her cashing in on his inheritance.
The husband, who earned $6.2 million in 2010, failed to tell the Family Court he had bought a $265,000 car and lied about how much money he obtained from the sale of a business and an inheritance his aunt left him, the Daily Telegraph reported.
Judge Peter Young gave the husband 66.5 percent of the couple's $15.5 million fortune and the wife kept 35.5 percent.
Justice Young said he had adjusted the split in favour of the wife because the man "intentionally and deliberately withheld relevant financial information as to his net assets and his entitlements under the estate of his late aunt".
The wife, a recovering alcoholic, will keep her $93,000 jewellery collection, various properties and a luxury car.
The husband will keep their lavish Melbourne home.
Justice Young said he didn't believe the husband's failure to declare the car to the court was just an "oversight".
"The husband is a clever, financially astute and very aware individual who clearly knew what valuable assets he owned," he said.
