Forest peace negotiators meet in Melbourne - Yahoo!7 News

Key players in Tasmania's forest peace deal will meet in Melbourne today to determine their position after the state's Upper House made major changes to the agreement.

Signatories to the deal will discuss whether they can accept changes made by the Legislative Council including delaying the creation of reserves.

Premier Lara Giddings has recalled Parliament for an extra sitting day next week to allow the House of Assembly to debate the amended legislation.

The move gives signatories two weeks to consider the changes.

The Wilderness Society's Vica Bayley says today's meeting is about further discussions rather than making a decision.

"We need to take the time to actually work through whether we believe all the opportunities ones for industry, opportunities for community and opportunities for the environment can indeed be realised through the severely amended legislation that the Legislative Council has put up," Mr Bayley said.
