Police with sniffer dogs caught 48 people carrying drugs at the Melbourne leg of the Future Music Festival at Flemington Racecourse on Sunday.
Detective Senior Sergeant Mark Pilkington said 42 males and six females were arrested under the Passive Alert Detection (PAD) dog operation.
‘‘They’re all [for] possession, and a variety of drugs: cannabis, amphetamines, MDMA, a little bit of LSD,’’ he said.
‘‘You don’t’ see a lot of [LSD] but there’s still a bit seen around.’’
Detective Senior Sergeant Pilkington said three people received a caution for cannabis while 45 would enter the drug diversion program.
‘‘The diversion program is where you avoid the court system and you attend drug counselling and get some education about it.’’
He said people taking illicit drugs had no clue what they were putting in their bodies with drugs made in clandestine laboratories.
‘‘If you’ve ever been inside one of these labs, you wouldn’t have a cup of tea in there, let alone ingest anything they’d manufacture inside.’’
Crowds of up to 50,000 turned up to see headline acts including Pharrell Williams, Deadmau5 and Phoenix.
