Eddie Vedder guests with Bruce Springsteen at Saturday's Melbourne, Australia ... - The Star-Ledger

As Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band play across Australia, so has Pearl Jam and many have felt an Eddie Vedder guest appearance would happen at some point..

It did on Saturday as Vedder was onstage for the first two songs of Springsteen's 32-song, three-hour-and-24-minute show at AAMI Park in Melbourne,

The opening song was again "Highway to Hell," and Vedder also joined Bruce on the vocals for "Darkness on the Edge of Town," in the second spot.

The show at the open-air stadium which can hold up to 30,000 for concerts, also featured the first full album peformance so far this tour: "Born in the U.S.A."

There were four tour premieres: "I'm Goin' Down" and "My Hometown" during the "Born in the U.S.A." set and "Jole Blon" and "Factory" played for sign requests.

Here's the video of the opening song with Vedder:

According to Chris Phillips' excellent report of the show on Backstreets: "Following the Born in the U.S.A. performance, Bruce went right out to the crowd to pull another sign, for 'Factory.' It read, "For the thousands who have lost their working lives..." and he took a moment to talk about the song: "My dad, when I was a child, five or six, maybe younger, worked on the Ford line in New Brunswick, N.J. ... This is a song about work, the meaning of work, and the importance of work in your life."

Interesting to read some negative comments about the show on the internet. Some are saying it wasn't that good of a set list compared to what Bruce has been playing and the stadium was full of people who got liquored up all afternoon and were annoying throughout the night.

But on the other hand, a friend posted this on Facebook: "Well. It doesn't get much better than that. Great stadium. Great sound. Bruce was on fire! Just under 3 and a half hours of awesome energy!"
