ANDREJS Everitt was 120 seconds away from staying with Sydney in the chaotic rundown to end of last year’s trade period.
Carlton fans would have been thankful he didn’t.
Everitt, whose trade paperwork went through with two minutes to spare, was one of the stars of Carlton’s thrilling seven-point NAB Challenge win over North Melbourne at Eureka Stadium.

The versatile Everitt, now at his third club, kicked three first half goals to give the Blues the ascendancy early in the game before North Melbourne stormed home late in the final term.
The Blues had led by as much as six goals early in the third term and looked to be headed for a comfortable win.
But the Kangaroos unleashed six of the last eight goals – spear-headed by four goals for the game to hometown hero Drew Petrie - to almost pinch the game.

Ever-green veteran Brent Harvey brought the almost 8000-strong crowd to their feet when he nailed a goal with only a few minutes remaining to make the difference only one point.
But Carlton rookie and former Collingwood ruckman Cameron Wood slotted through a goal soon after to give the Blues some breathing space.
On a day in which one-time Ballarat boy Mick Malthouse was presented with a lifetime achiever’s award from the local council, the Blues coach would have been delighted with his team’s performance.
His counterpart Brad Scott would have been frustrated with the first half of the match, but happy with the way the Kangaroos ran out the game.
In the end, it was probably the only super goal of the game, to Carlton’s Zac Tuohy, that proved the difference.
Tuohy’s huge bomb came at the eight-minute-mark of the third term and pushed the margin out to five goals.

Brock McLean dominated through the midfield, Tom Bell was impressive, Dylan Buckley looks set to win a spot in defence and Mitch Robinson had plenty of the ball.
Patrick Cripps, the Blues’ key draft pick, showed a little in his first game before being subbed out in the second half.
Petrie gave the Ballarat locals a timely reminder of his talent on the ground that he used to dominate on. He threatened at times to link the Kangaroos off the canvas.
Nick Dal Santo was conspicuous in everything he did, and not just because of his fluorescent orange boots in his first game for the Kangaroos.
He looks to be a massive in for the Kangaroos this season, with his sure-use of the ball likely to be invaluable, as it was throughout yesterday’s game.

Running off half-back, and at times in the middle, Dal Santo teamed well with midfielders Jack Ziebell, Ryan Bastinac and Daniel Wells, who all had an influence on the game.
Father-son draft pick Luke McDonald was impressive, having 22 touches in his first game for the club.
Kangaroos rookie defender Joel Tippett showed promise and would have impressed his brother, Sydney forward-ruckman Kurt, who was in Ballarat with the family to watch the match.
For a fair slice of the game, Tippett was assigned to Jarrad Waite and kept him to a bare minimum.
The Blues controlled the game for three quarters and had enough in reserve to hold on when the Kangaroos’ engine started clicking into gear.
