Police are trying to disarm two suspected bombs found inside a Melbourne gym after a drive-by shooting.

Bomb squad detectives, along with anti-bikie detectives from the state's Echo taskforce, have closed off a wide area around the Nitro gym in Hallam.

Police discovered the devices in the building after a worker arrived at the gym around 6am local time to find the business peppered with bullets.

It was the second shooting overnight.

Two hours earlier, multiple shots were fired at a tattoo parlour in nearby Dandenong.

A police spokeswoman said no one was injured in either shooting but detectives are investigating if outlaw motorcycle clubs are involved.

The delicate operation to remove the suspected explosive devices from the gym has temporarily closed the Princes Highway.
