Australian law enforcement officials have seized 274 kilograms of ephedrine, one of the largest single hauls of the drug in Australian history.
The drug was hidden in a shipment of rice from India into Melbourne.
Ephedrine is a drug used in small amounts to make cold medicine, but is also a key ingredient in the illegal drug crystal meth.
A joint operation by the Australian Federal Police, the Department of Agriculture and Customs culminate in the ephedrine being found in the rice shipment.
Four people have been arrested, accused of involvement in the importation and intended distribution of the drug.
The Australian Federal Police will reveal details of the seizure at a press conference in Canberra at 9:30am (AEST).
Ephedrine is a stimulant and appetite suppressant with a molecular structure similar to methamphetamine.
Ephedrine has been used for other medical reasons including promoting weight loss and increasing blood pressure.
Adverse effects can include sweating, delusions, mild euphoria, paranoia and hostility.
