A new Aussie film starring Portia de Rossi, Hamish Blake and Vampire Academy’s Lucy Fry has begun filming in Melbourne.

Now Add Honey, written, produced and starring Robyn Butler from ABC’s The Librarians, started its six-week shoot on Monday.

Director Wayne Hope had nothing but praise for Butler - who also happens to be his wife.

‘‘I married an awesome multi-tasker, it’s such a funny warm script. Robyn, Portia, Hamish and the rest of the cast make up a dream comic ensemble,’’ he said in a statement on Monday.

Butler said the comic cast, which also includes Ben Lawson and musical theatre star Lucy Durack ‘‘far exceed the limits of my imaginary voices’’, and also had a compliment for her other half, with this marking the couple’s feature film debut.

‘‘I’m delighted to be working with such an amazingly gifted crew, led by my favourite director,’’ she said.

Now Add Honey stars Fry as Honey Halloway, a teen star who returns to Australia from Hollywood for a short trip, and is forced to stay with her aunt Caroline (Butler) when her mother (de Rossi) is suddenly sent away.

Roadshow Films will distribute the film, with a release date yet to be confirmed.

Butler is also the brains behind the ABC’s Upper Middle Bogan, which starts on August 15.
