A man faces 85 charges over allegations he groomed and procured young victims overseas via the internet from his home in suburban Melbourne.


Shaun Donald Adamson, 32, is also charged with numerous counts of making live webcam pornographic movies and with transmitting and receiving child pornography.


The offences are alleged to have been committed at his St Albans home between March and August last year and targeted people "worldwide", according to investigators.


Fairfax Media has learned the alleged victims are from areas that include North America and Europe.


Mr Adamson appeared on Friday morning in Melbourne Magistrates Court for a filing hearing.


Prosecutor Luisa Dipiertrantonio said Mr Adamson was charged on a summons issued on August 8 and that a brief of evidence against him had already been served.


Ms Dipiertrantonio asked magistrate Duncan Reynolds to allow eight weeks before a committal mention hearing given that the "brief is quite large".


Mr Adamson, who was represented by barrister Andrew Dickenson, will appear again on October 18.
