Melbourne Rebels have signed New South Wales Waratahs winger Tom Kingston.

Kingston has agreed to terms with the Rebels, committing for the next two seasons.

Unable to consistently secure a spot in the powerful NSW team this season, Kingston is expected to push for a permanent spot with Melbourne.

"We have been watching Tom's progress for some time, his early season form suggested that he probably could have seen more game time this season," said Melbourne's general manager of rugby Sam Cordingley said.

"He is a quality person and a fantastic athlete who will realise his potential with regular time on the park in a Rebels jersey.

"With the departure of Richard Kingi there was an opportunity to recruit a quality outside back and Tom is certainly that. We are all thrilled to have Tom at the club over the next two years.

"We are very pleased with the depth of the squad and how they have responded in recent weeks. Tom is highly regarded in the Australian rugby community, and having him on board will only further enrich our young club.

"He is also a very balanced athlete, looking to continue his studies here in Melbourne, which the club will fully support as part of our Five Star Engagement program."

Kingston joins Wallaby Luke Burgess and Southern Districts back-rower Lopeti Timani at the cub for next season, along with Tom Sexton, Toby Smith and Max Lahiff who are all Australian-born and will join the Rebels from abroad.
