Securing back-to-back wins for the first time since 2011 is the challenge for Melbourne to move into the next phase of improvement under Paul Roos.
Several Melbourne players already have stated Saturday's significant interstate win against Adelaide will mean little unless the Demons can add another against the Western Bulldogs and begin establishing a culture of sustained success, rather than surprise "one-off" victories.
Defensive leader Jack Grimes revealed that Roos reminded the players they had been in this situation before, but this time could not afford to be satisfied with just breaking their losing run and easing the pressure on themselves.
"It [the Bulldogs match] is a huge game for our footy club because the past shows we haven't responded well after wins," Grimes said on Fairfax Radio on Sunday.
