A BRAZILIAN man accused of killing three people in a Melbourne traffic collision had the drug ice in his system and ran red lights before the crash, a court has heard.

Pedestrian Anthony Parsons and married couple Inimi and Savvas Menelaou were killed in the crash on Dandenong Road at Oakleigh on Sunday night.

Another three people were injured.

Brazilian national Nei Lima DaCosta, 29, was charged with three counts of culpable driving, three of negligently causing serious injury and one of reckless conduct endangering life.

The Melbourne Magistrates Court was today told DaCosta was travelling at 120km/h when he hit Mr Parsons.

Detective Sergeant Mark Amos told a bail hearing that DaCosta, who has admitted using ice, had traces of methamphetamine in his system at the time of the crash.

The court was told DaCosta is also facing a driving at dangerous speed charge after allegedly travelling at 45km/h over the limit through Melbourne's Burnley Tunnel in April.

Prosecutor Guilliaume Bailin said DaCosta had shown "wanton disregard for the road rules" and posed a serious risk of driving dangerously again.

Defence lawyer Lisa Mendicino said DaCosta, who has a wife and infant daughter, knew he faced a lengthy prison term and wanted to sort out his affairs before entering custody.

Magistrate Charlie Rozencwajg adjourned the bail hearing until tomorrow.
