TWO people have been injured in a nightmare Qantas flight from Melbourne to Sydney last night.
Wild winds caused severe turbulence for the 179 passengers aboard QF460, which made two failed attempts to land at Sydney Airport.
The plane was diverted and eventually made a safe landing at RAAF Williamstown, a military base in Newcastle.
But the chaos didn't end there, as passengers were bussed to Sydney Airport where there were not enough taxis to take them into the city.
Author Jane Caro tweeted that the passengers were "dumped outside arrivals - no staff, no taxis, no nothing".
She said it was a "horror flight" and the worst turbulence she had experienced.
"You know it's been a really freaky flight when the crew congratulate the pilot & 1st officer for getting us safely on the ground," Ms Caro tweeted.
Two people were injured by loose objects flying around the cabin.
Both were taken to hospital before being released on Saturday morning.
Another passenger, Nehme Khattar, tweeted that it was the "scariest moment in my life".
"Thank God we are alive," Mr Khattar said.
Qantas apologised for the inconvenience caused to the travellers but said the crew handled the situation professionally.
The Australian Transport Safety Bureau was notified of the incident.
