Student injured in chemistry lab explosion at Melbourne University - Herald Sun




A CHEMISTRY experiment gone wrong has left a university student with cuts to his face and arms.



The man, aged in his 20s, was mixing chemicals when a glass container exploded in front of him at Melbourne University.


MFB spokesman Ian Morris said the man was believed to have been working in a chemistry lab at the university's Parkville campus.


Students and staff were evacuated from the area as fire crews assessed the scene to figure out what went wrong.


Ambulance Victoria spokeswoman Susannah Hicks said the man was taken to the Royal Melbourne Hospital in a stable condition.


Melbourne University spokesman David Scott confirmed the man was a university student who was working in a chemical engineering research lab.
