MELBURNIANS should pack their umbrellas with heavy rain forecast to continue for most of the day.
Bureau of Meteorology senior forecaster Scott Williams said 13mm fell in the city overnight, with 20mm at Moorabbin, 21mm at Laverton and 26mm at Mount Dandenong.
"There have been some fairly substantial falls," he said.
"Today it's going to rain quite heavily at times. We can expect to see another 15mm to 20mm in the inner suburbs and there could be more in the southeastern suburbs.
"The rain won't ease until this evening."
A top of 16C is forecast today.
The wet weather comes as Melbourne looks set to shiver through its longest November cold snap in more than 20 years.
The city hasn't hit 20C since Friday and isn't forecast to top that until Saturday.
Senior weather bureau forecaster Peter Blake said that would make it a eight-day cold stretch not seen since 1989.
"At this time of year, to have an extended run of below 20C, obviously doesn't happen that often," he said yesterday.
But cloud is expected to clear on Sunday for a sunny day with a high of 23C, rising to 28C on Monday.
"So there is relief in sight," Mr Blake said.
