Stuck for something to do this weekend? Mikey Cahill has your super fun free days all planned out.
BREAKDANCING
Cypher Culture may sound like the next Ridley Scott directed Russell Crowe star-vehicle but it's actually a special breakdancing event part of the City of Yarra's Leaps and Bounds Festival.
Since its inception in the early `80s, hip hop's all-inclusive sub-culture has been smashing boundaries and on Saturday strong-wristed dancers from around Australia will gather to show off their moves and make jaws hit the concrete floor. Yours not theirs.
The event will consist of a 4 vs 4 all-age breakdance battle, an under 18s round robin style battle and then the all-female crew of Jungle City will put their thing down, flip it and reverse it. DJ Jezroc will be joined by live act Kurv and Earth and the whole thing is hosted by Fever Press.
14-year-old Spencer Johnston is the special interstate guest and he'll facilitate a free community workshop alongside Melbourne veteran, Bboy Nasa at 11am. The Crom, 138 Collingwood St, Collingwood. Sat, noon. $5/$10.

MELBOURNE MAGIC SHOW
Whoa. Easy there fella. You don't want to set anyone’s hair on fire like I once did on a second date with a South African girl in London in 2005.
All that product meant it went up in flames like a tyre factory. It was all damage control from there and I'm not talking about split ends. The Magic Festival is on and Adam Mada is one firebug not a menace to society. See Mada's Marvels Saturday at 9pm and Sunday at 3.30pm.
Adam's also an ambassador for Starlight Children's Foundation and a percentage of his ticket sales will be donated to the foundation. Northcote Town Hall, 189 High St. $16 to $22, family $55. There are plenty more shows on too if you'd rather not risk scorched follicles and that pungent smell.

NIGHT CREATURES
Kevin the Coralla was hit by a car and brought into the shelter. His talents were noticed when he started chatting up the nurses and making all kinds of racy suggestions about what type of man, err, animal he is.
Here he is with Healesville Sanctuary keeper Jason Bell performing a few tricks, ``Stick `em up!'' is his specialty move. Discover the incredible nocturnal world of Kevin and his mates this winter as you drop by and watch Tasmanian devil feeding and listen to talks from the keepers.
Apparently Kevin likes keeping the Tassie devils on their toes and vice versa. Healesville Sanctuary, Badger Creek Road, Healesville, Saturday and Sunday from 9am-5pm. Free with general admission and kids enter free during the holidays!

CARNIVAL OF CURIOSITIES
The State Library ain't so square. To prove it, Sunday from noon until 6pm they're celebrating a century of the Dome with lectures (hmm, shaky start), musical performances, pop-up talks, magic tricks, storytelling, tours, 1940s style acrobatic performance, a time machine and much more.
Some of the memorabilia on show is The Press Dress, Captain Cook's Waistcoat, Horn Books and there will be magic and illusion form Alma Conjuring Collection.
Witness the Joan Duck card trick, the Rapping Spirit Hand and the Morritt Cage disappearing model where a person enters a small, freestanding cage, curtains are drawn around it, then moments later the curtains are pulled back to reveal....the cage is empty!
Composer George Dreyfus will conduct a 17 piece band as they perform Fanfare For a New Dome and you can even make your own Ned Kelly helmet. Could be good if you have the sniffles too, you don't want to pass your cold on. Free.

CHRISTMAS IN JULY
Only two and a half hours from Melbourne, Mt Baw Baw lays claim to being the closest ski resort to the CBD. They're probably rueing this geographical fact right now as they're due for some snow...overdue in fact!
Regardless of the white powdery stuff, Santa will be on a sled pulled by a team of Husky dogs and all the things that usually happen in late December are happening now. It ends Sunday, hopefully just in time for a big dump of snow that will have St Nick bogged but beaming. It's $43 resort entry per vehicle.

ELMO'S WORLD TOUR
When I was growing up it was all about Oscar The Grouch but in the last 20 years Elmo's ebullient charms have stolen the limelight from the green curmudgeon and now Sesame Street's little red puppet, I mean, person, PERSON, has his own world tour.
See the whole gang of Big Bird, Abby Cadabby, Grover, Zoe and Cookie Monster as bring this popular musical show back to Australia. Sat, 10am, noon and 2pm at Her Majesty's Theatre, 219 Exhibition St, Melbourne. Tickets range from $24.90 to $44.90.

WALK ON THE WILDSIDE
ArtPlay want kids aged 5-8 to discover a new world where imagination and emotion are used to create visual stories. The Ripple program encourages kids to ``take a line for a walk'' this Winter and see exactly what can be achieved with an unconventional drawing workshop.
Try different drawing techniques, discover what visual stories natrually develop and maybe even get a glimpse into the future as a video game maker, town planner or caricaturist. Yes, that is a real world.
Ripple is on Sunday 10-11.30am at Birrarung Marr, Batman Avenue and costs $15. A parent or guardian must accompany the little tackers.
