Making a third World Cup will serve as motivation for Harry Kewell to take the A-League by storm this season.

Kewell arrived in Melbourne Tuesday and will meet his Melbourne Heart teammates for the first time when he has his first training session with them Wednesday.

The 34-year-old said he is confident he will perform better for Heart than he did in his first stint in the A-League for Melbourne Victory in 2011-12.

And while the 58-times capped Socceroo played a straight bat to questions about whether or not he thinks he will make next year's World Cup squad, Kewell could not deny that Brazil is a major motivating factor.

"Of course it is,'' Kewell said. "It's a fantastic opportunity to be a part of that for myself because it's a chance for me to be a part of five of the World Cup campaigns since 1997, so it would be a great achievement for myself.

"But there's some great talent in Australia at the moment, they showed that throughout the qualifying rounds to qualify for the World Cup, so good luck to them. But for me it's just important to concentrate on myself and Melbourne Heart to achieve some things with them.''

Kewell will have nearly three and a half months’ worth of pre-season training under his belt when he lines up against his former Victory teammates at Etihad Stadium on October 12.

During a mid-season interview the attacker rated the first half of his season with Victory only a three out of 10, but was a shining light during the second half of the year.

"I think I'm going to be a lot more prepared this time around,'' he said. "Last time it was a shock to the system. I knew how good the league was, but to get in there straight away it ended up being a bit of a topsy turvy year for me that year.''
