The Victorian Government is committing $34 million to build a new mental health facility at Werribee in Melbourne's west.
The existing mental health wing of the Werribee Mercy Hospital will be replaced with a 54-bed new facility, creating 30 clinical jobs.
Premier Denis Napthine says it is the biggest-ever boost for mental health services in west Melbourne.
"We know that people coming here for emergency mental health services waited longer than any other place in the state of Victoria," Dr Napthine said.
"There was a real problem in the west with mental health services and what we're on about is fixing the problem and building services for the future."
The Premier says the funding will allow for 25 more adult beds.
"We know that services in this area have been stretched well and truly, and when we came to office half the people in this area had to go outside the region to get basic mental health care."
