A MELBOURNE man accused of collecting al-Qa'ida magazines in preparation for a terrorist attack has been committed to stand trial.
Adnan Karabegovic pleaded not guilty today to charges of collecting and possessing material in connection with the preparation of a terrorist act.
The Melbourne Magistrates Court has heard the 24-year-old had downloaded six issues of the magazine Inspire.
Prosecutor Daniel Gurvich said the magazine contained a section called "open source jihad", which describes itself as a resource manual for jihad training at home and a "disaster for the repressive imperialistic nations".
The magazines contained articles such as "What to expect in Jihad" and "Make a bomb in the kitchen of your mum", the court was told.
An Arabic translator told the committal hearing that Karabegovic could be heard engaging in "jihadist chanting" during telephone conversations which were recorded.
Karabegovic will appear in the Victorian Supreme Court for a directions hearing on April 29.
