Melbourne barrister 'comes out' as pop siren - Ninemsn - Ninemsn

April 19, 2013: For the past four years a Melbourne woman has worked by day as a barrister and by night as Bowie Jane, the pop singer currently knocking on the door of the top 10 in the UK club charts.

A Melbourne barrister has opened up about her secret double life as a pop songwriter, as her debut single propels her to music stardom.

Bowie Jane released the boppy dance track Luv Bomb last month and it has since glided up the UK charts to number 11 on the commercial pop Top 30.

The 27-year-old's success has her jostling for top spot with the likes of Justin Timberlake and One Direction.

But it has also exposed Jane's clandestine music career to her more staid legal fraternity.

"I was gigging six nights a week for a while. No one knew what I was doing," she told the Herald Sun.

For the past four years Jane has worked by day as a barrister and by night as a pop singer, swapping her courtroom robe and wig for a Lycra suit as she performed in front of thousands.

Her clients and colleagues were clueless.

"Law is a male-dominated industry and very conservative and I [was] worried that people wouldn't take me seriously if they found out," she told the Daily Mail.

Jane, who divides her time between Melbourne and London, said she once had to leave work early to make a gig on the main stage at the Australian Open.

Although she enjoys law, Jane said music has always been her driving passion and she hopes her newfound success can help her forge a career in the industry.
