MELBOURNE Heart has signed former Socceroo Vince Grella.
The Australian understands a deal was clinched in the last couple if days.
Grella, 33, will return to Australian football for the first time since 1998 when he played with Carlton in the old NSL.
He has spent the past three seasons with English club Blackburn Rovers but was dogged by injuries and played just 38 games.
Grella, a classy midfielder with skills and toughness , spent 14 years playing in Europe, mainly in Italy.
His signing is a huge boost for the Heart, who have had a great start to the season under rookie coach John Aloisi.
The Victorians beat Melbourne Victory in the opening game of the season before a draw with Wellington on Sunday.
