Former Chelsea star Frank Lampard is reportedly heading to Australia for a guest stint with A-League outfit Melbourne City.

Lampard is set to join Spanish great David Villa at the club next season before the pair move to new MLS franchise New York City early in 2015, according to the mirror.co.uk website.

The report claims a deal has already been agreed, with an announcement imminent.

Villa last month signed to play 10 games for Melbourne City.

If the move does go ahead, Lampard - Chelsea's all-time leading goalscorer - will be reunited with former teammate Damien Duff, who has already signed a one-year deal with the A-League outfit.

The 36-year-old midfielder, who featured for England at the Brazil World Cup, is said to have spoken to former Socceroo and Chelsea goalkeeper Mark Schwarzer about moving to Australia - specifically Melbourne.

"All I can say is that he did ask me about Melbourne Heart. He did ask me what Melbourne was like and what Melbourne Heart was like," Schwarzer told the website.

"There is huge potential in the game in Australia and it would be unbelievable if he went to Australia.

"I said to him that he would love living there; it's a great place to live.

"He walked away with that and I know what he's like. So we will see."

Both New York City and Melbourne City - previously Melbourne Heart - are owned by Manchester City supremo Sheik Mansour.
