Melbourne plane makes emergency landing - Sky News Australia

A plane in Melbourne has been forced to make an emergency landing after the nose wheel of the aircraft broke.

The pilot made a 'mayday' call when the nose wheel twisted as he made a landing approach at Moorabbin airport, in Melbourne's south-east.

Firefighters laid foam on the runway to prevent any chance of fire while the plane circled the airport and air traffic control officers assessed the situation.

The Piper aircraft came in on its landing approach with the nose wheel turned sideways.

Apart from a puff of smoke from the wheel - the aircraft made a perfect three point landing.
