A single tear rolls down Todd Viney's craggy cheek. Melbourne, the first club, has lost another legend.

"It's been unfathomable really, that we've gone through such a tragedy," said Viney, who played a year with Melbourne legend Robbie Flower.

"To lose so many great people has been so sad. Today will bring us all together, tighter."

Melbourne has barely had time to mourn the passing of the legendary Jim Stynes, and now another legend is gone. Flower, the dashing wingman, hugely talented but ultimately rarely rewarded, scrupulously fair, humble to a fault. Dead at 59, well before his time.
