The family of the 18-year-old terror suspect shot dead by police are devastated by his death, a Muslim religious leader has said.

Director of the Ahlus Sunnah Wal Jama'ah Association of Australia, Sheikh Abu Ayyman, visited the grieving family of Numan Haider, but said he'd never met the Endeavour Hills teenager.

"They're very devastated when you lose your youngest son, it's not a simple thing," he said.
