Man found dead on Melbourne road - Yahoo!7 News

Man found dead on Melbourne road7News/Twitter A crime scene has been set up in Melbourne after a man's body was found on a road after what police suspect was a hit-and-run incident.

A resident heard arguing before a man's body was found in the middle of a suburban Melbourne street.

A passing motorist found the body in the middle of the Noble Park street about 10.20pm (AEST) on Thursday.

Police initially suspected the man was the victim of a hit-and-run.

They are now treating it as a suspicious death and possible homicide after a neighbour heard men's voices and car doors opening and closing outside his home around the same time on Thursday night, Detective Sergeant Graham Ross said.

"A witness that we have spoken to has told us that he heard some arguing or some multiple voices around about the time this man was found, some car doors opening and closing," Det Sgt Ross told reporters at the scene on Friday.

That information led police to believe it was more likely to be a homicide rather than a hit-and-run, he said.

The man has head injuries and a post-mortem examination will be conducted later on Friday.

He has yet to be identified.

Det Sgt Ross said it was possible the man was a local resident but his body may have been dumped in the street.

"It's obviously possible that he's been brought to this location and left at this location," he told Fairfax Radio.
