He's one of the highest paid players at the Kangaroos and has a reputation for financial frugality, so it comes as little surprise that there was a bit of tension in the room when veteran Brent Harvey won the major prize at the club's players raffle.

WHEN a North Melbourne player is ever asked to nominate the ‘tightest’ player at the club the answer is inevitably Brent Harvey.

The Kangaroos games-record holder did his reputation no favours today taking home first prize in the annual North Melbourne players’ raffle — a new Mazda3 SP25 — after buying just two of 460 tickets in the draw.

WELLS TO RETURN, WARY OF MATCH FITNESS

And Harvey, like he’s done for most of his 450-odd goals in a career spanning 19 seasons, left nothing in tank celebrating the momentous victory in front of Kangaroos teammates and staffers.

It was almost as if Harvey had an inkling it was his day when seconds before Kangaroos coach Brad Scott drew the lucky ticket he let out an audible “C’mon!” with the barrel rolling.

Scott too was taken aback after plucking Harvey’s ticket.

“This is not a joke ... Boomer,” he said.

Upon hearing his name, Harvey, 36, emerges from the masses, his arms held high.

The shrewd Kangaroo tried to thank teammates after double-checking the ticket only to have any acceptance drowned out by resounding boos.

Unfazed, just as he was when Fremantle supporters gave him heaps earlier in the year, Harvey copped the ribbing on the chin and celebrated with gusto.
