Hot 5: Where to watch the World Cup final in Melbourne - Herald Sun

AFTER weeks of late nights and early mornings, bleary-eyed soccer fans will finally get closure when Argentina and Germany meet in the World Cup final on Monday.

And if you insist on getting up at crazy o’clock one last time, here’s where you should catch the game in Melbourne.

FESTIVAL OF FOOTBALL

Check the website and you’ll be convinced. This site in St Kilda’s Palace George complex has beanbags for all and great sightlines to watch Monday’s World Cup final at 5am. And it has Brazilian-style street carts selling chicken, beef, bacon and egg tacos or Brazilian hot dogs. No fuzz on them.

MIDDLE PARK HOTEL

Did somebody say, “White Rabbit ale, braised beef and bacon pies and Cumberland sausage rolls with HP sauce and hot English mustard?”. Did they then say, “opening at 5am and fully licensed to serve alcohol at 5.01am?”. Middle Park Hotel, I like the cut of your jib.

IMAX

This is where I’ll be watching the “fitbah”. Attention IMAX, you guys have an espresso machine, yes? I’m thinking it might be too hard to follow the play across the world’s third-largest screen. I’m probably wrong, I just wanna collapse my expectations a little. Without coffee it’ll all look 3D.

YOUR COUCH

Do you really want to get up at 4am and defrost your windscreen or wipe sleet off your bike? Relax. SBS has got your back. And that back sure is cosy leaning into your Chesterfield, wrapped up in a doona like a pig in a blanket (snack o’ the week) with your kitchen only a few metres away.

A MATE’S COUCH

You do really want to get up at 4am and defrost your windscreen or wipe sleet off your bike! Of course you do. Then you can get to a buddy’s house and relax. Insist he/she makes you pig in a blanket. Just say it’s an authentic Brazilian food eaten at sports events and gives four years’ good luck to whoever prepares it.
