Police searched throughout the night for the man wanted over the murder of a woman near Melbourne's Royal Botanic Gardens over the weekend.
Homicide detectives identified Scott Allen Miller, 42, as a suspect in the death of a Chinese hospitality worker whose naked body was found on Saturday near the corner of St Kilda Road and Linthgow Avenue at Southbank.
Victoria Police said Miller was known to police in Western Australia and moved to Melbourne six weeks ago.
It was believed he had been sleeping rough not far from where the woman's naked body was found by a jogger behind the police memorial about 8:35am on Saturday.
Police believe the woman was killed in the gardens and are not aware of any connection between her and Miller.
They were also not commenting on the cause of her death but said she was probably on her way to work at a restaurant when she was attacked.
Police seized a number of items at the scene which lead them to believe Miller was involved, but will not go into detail about what they were.
They thought Miller might still be in the CBD, and members of the public had been warned not to approach him but to call triple-0 immediately.
Police said they had not contacted the woman's family yet.
