The wild weather that has lashed Melbourne since Tuesday is expected to clear in coming days but not before the city shivers through another cold day on Sunday.

Wet and windy conditions caused havoc on roads on Friday and Saturday and brought down trees across Melbourne, prompting more than 50 calls to the SES.

Melbourne reached a top of just 12.7 degrees at 2.30pm on Saturday, as a strong cold front over western Victoria and chilly wind gusts up to 30km/h kept apparent temperatures below 7 degrees for most of the day.

Melbourne is expected to reach only 13 degrees on Sunday, with up to 15mm of rain to fall and possible hail.
