Iconic Ibiza venue Café Del Mar – the one that spawned the eponymous chill-out compilation series – opened its first Australian venue at Sydney’s Cockle Bay Wharf in November last year, and now Australian founder Michael Vale has announced that they’ll be following up with a Melbourne venue on St Kilda Beach later this year.

Speaking with The Music Network , Vale said, “Café del Mar in Sydney is what I call an urban model for a corporate market. Café del Mar in Melbourne will clearly be a beach club, a far more casual atmosphere and far more true to the Café del Mar in Ibiza.”

The new venue will reportedly include, “Three bars and one café featuring branded booze and signature coffee…a Mediterranean Charcoal Grill featuring ‘dancing fire’ and a revolving tapas bar; massive digital screens featuring Ibiza sunsets during the winter months; and total capacity of 500 over three levels with a ‘massive’ open air rooftop patio.” Vale also revealed that Café Del Mar Melbourne will produce its own compilation CD series; stay tuned for more details on the venue’s launch date.
