William and Kate avoid Melbourne on royal tour - 3AW (blog)

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge's itinerary for the April visit was released this morning.

William, Kate and George will bypass Melbourne on their royal tour this year.

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge's itinerary for the April visit was released this morning with no stop in south-eastern Australia.

After touring New Zealand, the royal trio will visit Sydney, Brisbane, Uluru, Adelaide and Canberra.

But they won't make it to Western Australia, Tasmania or Victoria, the state that William's father, Prince Charles, called home while studying at Geelong Grammar.

The Queen has given special permission for two heirs to the throne - William and son George - to travel to Australia on the same plane to allow George to make the trip as well.

Prince William travelled with his parents to New Zealand and Australia in 1983, when he was a similar age.

He last visited Victoria in 2011, and also in 2010.

The royals arrive in Sydney on Wednesday, April 16.
