Manly Sea Eagles v Melbourne Storm - Sydney Morning Herald

7:30pm: 20 min: Brett Stewart's in everything tonight, this time threading a kick through for Justin Horo to score. Manly are on fire. Lyon's kick is astray. MANLY 14-0. By the way, we have a few a technical issues with our live scoreboard, which is not updating. Our apologies.

7:24pm: 14 min: Cheyse Blair scores on debut for Manly, Lyon converts from the sideline and Manly go out to a 10-point lead. Ominous signs. MANLY 10-0.

7:19pm: 9 min: NO TRY. Billy Slater and Bryan Norrie deny Brett Stewart a try with desperate last-ditch defence. Referee Gavin Reynolds ruled no try and the video refs were in agreement.

7:11pm: 4 min: Manly draw first blood, Steve Matai crossing untouched after superb hands by Kieran Foran and Brett Stewart. The passing was as crisp as it gets. Jamie Lyon's kick is off target. MANLY 4-0.

7:06pm: 1 min: Cameron Smith kicks off for Melbourne.

6:49pm: "Now listen,

Oh we're steppin' out.

I'm gonna turn around,

Gonna turn around once and we'll do the Eagle Rock . . ."

Michael Chammas writes: What a mouth-watering start to the season – two of the competition heavyweights going head-to-head at Brookvale. Manly are missing their starting wingers and have a shortage of front rowers, but it’s the absence of Storm halfback Cooper Cronk that will have the biggest impact on the outcome of this game.

Tip: Sea Eagles by 7

AAP writes: One of rugby league's greatest modern rivalries continues at one of its oldest venues. Manly always lift at Brookie and the Storm look less than their usual formidable selves with Ben Roberts at halfback although there is talk Cooper Cronk could be a late inclusion. George Rose returns to his old stomping ground against a Sea Eagles pack that has plenty of doubters. The pressure is on Manly props Brenton Lawrence, Josh Starling, Dunamis Lui and James Hasson to fill the hole left by a number of better credentialled departures.

Key: Brett Stewart. The superstar fullback is fit and firing according to coach Geoff Toovey, which makes him a near certainty to continue his incredible tryscoring record at Brookvale.

SEA EAGLES: Brett Stewart, Cheyse Blair, Jamie Lyon (capt), Steve Matai, Peta Hiku, Kieran Foran, Daly Cherry-Evans, Josh Starling, Matt Ballin, Brenton Lawrence, Anthony Watmough, Justin Horo, Glenn Stewart. Interchange: Jesse Sene-Lefao, James Hasson, Jamie Buhrer, Dunamis Lui.
