Emirates flight makes smoky landing at Melbourne Airport - Herald Sun

AN Emirates plane landed at Melbourne Airport this morning with smoke coming from the plane.

Flight EK406 from Dubai was due to touch down at 7.38am after taking off from Dubai at 10.24pm last night.

As it was about to land at Melbourne Airport, smoke was seen coming from the plane.

Melbourne Airport spokeswoman Anna Gillett said firefighters were scrambled to the plane as a precaution.

“All passengers were taken off the plane safely and the plane was later towed into a landing bay,” she said.

It’s the second smoke-related incident to hit planes from the UAE this week.

An Etihad flight from Melbourne to Abu Dhabi was forced to land in Jakarta on Tuesday after two fires were lit in the cabin toilets.

After a security search of the aircraft, the Boeing 777-300 took off again only for a third fire to be lit about two hours from landing.

Upon arrival at Abu Dhabi, 12 passengers were interviewed by local authorities.

No arrests have yet been made and investigations are continuing.
