The Melbourne Star has re-opened a day after it closed due to technical problems.

The ride was shut at 11am on Friday and re-opened at 10am on Saturday, although there were scant visitors in the area at the time.

A spokeswoman said on Friday the problem was not related to the 'pods' and that the glitch did not pose a safety threat to passengers.

The wheel reopened to the public on December 23.

It initially opened in 2008 but closed a few weeks later due to faults with the original design that required it to be partially rebuilt. Melbourne Star were contacted for comment.
