Four people have been charged with drug offences on the opening day of the Stereosonic music festival in Melbourne.

They were among 64 people arrested by police who were on patrol at the Melbourne Showgrounds on Saturday.

Officers say they seized a range of illicit drugs, including ecstasy, amphetamines, cocaine, GHB and MDMA.

Another 57 people received drug diversions, two people received cannabis cautions, while the four people charged by police have since been bailed.

Those arrested included 51 males and 13 females.

Detective Senior Sergeant Mark Pilkington says the drugs seized are extremely dangerous and manufactured by criminals.

"You have no idea what you are taking when you ingest these substances," he said.

"It is impossible to know how the choice of taking these types of drugs will impact, not only your health, but your life."

Police with sniffer dogs will be patrolling the again for the second and final day of the electronic music festival today.

"We will be back tomorrow (Sunday) to continue this operation and if you choose to run the gauntlet it is likely you will be caught," Mr Pilkington said.

Earlier this month, 105 people were charged with drug-related offences at the Sydney Stereosonic festival.
