MELBOURNE Renegades have given a chance of a lifetime to Essendon batsman Solomon Mire.

The former Zimbabwe under-19 representative had been the Big Bash club's community rookie until he was promoted this morning after an injury sidelined Daniel Harris.

Mire, 24, has impressed in Premier Cricket, making the team of the season last summer.

But it was his blistering century off 53 balls in a trial game in Ballarat on Sunday that sealed his elevation.

It's not the only change for the Renegades, who have elevated supplementary players Jake Reed and Andrew Fekete in place of fellow pacemen James Pattinson and Matthew Gale.

Gale, who is recovering from a knee injury, is hopeful of a return midway through the competition.

Test paceman Pattinson is on track for a return as early as the club's first home game on December 30.

Pattinson, Gale and Harris can return to the squad as soon as they are fit.
