THE Newcastle Jets' W-League season lurched to a new low on Saturday when they were belted 6-0 by a white-hot Melbourne Victory.
After four rounds the Jets are the only club yet to register a point and now have a goal difference of minus 15.
The second last-placed West Sydney Wanderers have a goal difference of minus five.
Striker Caitlin Friend scored a hat-trick for the hosts at Kingston Heath Reserve and Enza Barilla snared a brace in the lop-sided contest.
The opening half hour was relatively even and the Jets almost scored in the 30th minute when Rhali Dobson's cross to Adriana Jones was smothered by Victory goalkeeper Cassie Dimovski.
However, a minute later the rot started to settle in for the Jets.
Friend scored when a clearance from the newly returned right back Hannah Brewer bounced off her and into the goal.
Three minutes later Gulcan Koca extended Melbourne's lead after an assist from Matildas striker Lisa De Vanna.
Another goal by Friend before the break gave the Victory a 3-0 half-time lead.
Barilla's brace and a third from Friend made the scoreline 6-0 by the 70th minute, the Victory's biggest win in their W-League history.
The record result was soured by another potentially serious knee injury for highly regarded midfielder Ashley Brown.
The 2012 W-League young player of the year, who was playing her first match after a year's absence due to a knee reconstruction, will have a scan on the same knee after being stretchered off in the final seconds.
"We've improved a lot since that first game, both with a couple of players who have come in but also with gelling just a bit more as a team," said Victory coach Dave Edmondson.
"Feelings are with Ash at the moment. The result is secondary and the way it finished is really disappointing."
Brisbane Roar midfielder Elise Kellond-Knight was the heroine as the two-time champions secured an important 1-0 away win over fellow W-League title contenders Canberra United.
Kellond-Knight's early goal proved enough as Brisbane avenged a 3-0 loss against the same opponent a month ago and maintained a share of top spot alongside Melbourne.
Canberra were left to rue several missed opportunities, most notably a first-half penalty miss from American midfielder Lori Lindsey who thumped her spot-kick against the post.
On Saturday, Perth Glory halted a run of two successive defeats with a much-needed 1-0 win over Adelaide United, Rosie Sutton heading the winner almost on full-time. - with AAP
