MOVE over parmas and meat pies - Montmorency author Ethan Jenkins thinks the golden age of hamburgers has arrived.

Mr Jenkins has spent the past six months mapping the locations of the best burgers in Victoria.

The 22-year-old, along with photographer Katie Wilton, designer Grace West and St Kilda-based burger blogger Jimmy Hurlston, who has claimed to have eaten more than 4000 burgers in his lifetime, created a meatlovers' must-have coffee table book called The Burger Book.

Mr Jenkins sampled everything from soft shell crab burgers in Brunswick to fancy Wagyu beef burgers and more traditional beef burgers in country pubs, although he stayed away from vegetarian offerings.

His favourite is the kofta lamb-mint burger at the Eltham Burger Lounge.

"We found through the book that there are some burger institutions that have been around forever, but also a lot of fine dining restaurants and restaurants across the dining scene are introducing burgers on their menus," he said.

"I grew up in Montmorency with The Burger Lounge and I know every one of my mates goes there."

The Burger Book includes pictures of 90 burgers, maps to locate the best hidden gems and recipes for aioli, buns, patties and chips.
