Melbourne train narrowly misses elderly man - Ninemsn

November 19, 2013: An elderly man has been caught on security vision narrowly being run over by a train in Melbourne's outer-east after he fell off the station's platform.

Security vision has shown the chilling moment an elderly man fell off a platform into the path of an oncoming train on Melbourne Cup day.

The heart-stopping footage shows the 88-year-old stumbling to the edge of the platform before tumbling right off as the train approaches.

Miraculously the man survived, but only thanks to the quick-thinking actions of the driver who managed to slow down and bring the train to a stop just centimetres from the man.

A passer-by then jumps down to help the man before paramedics arrived.

The man was taken to Melbourne's Alfred Hospital with leg injuries, where he has been recovering ever since.
