Melbourne Cup hopeful Sangster will have his next lead-up race in the A$567,000 Turnbull Stakes (2000m) at Flemington next Saturday.
The Kiwi galloper will run into Melbourne Cup favourites Puissance de Lune and Fiorente in next Saturday's encounter in what will be his third run this preparation.
Co-trainer Trent Busuttin said Sangster has come through his last race, in which he finished a close sixth, in good order.
"He has taken another step up with each race and next Saturday's race should provide a good guide as to where he is now at," Busuttin said.
Last season's Auckland Cup winner is a graduate of Matamata's Kilgravin Lodge and has been targeted for some months for a tilt at the A$6 million Melbourne Cup on the first Tuesday of November.
Sangster is one of the leading New Zealand hopefuls for the Melbourne Cup but certainly not the only one.
The most favourite of the Kiwi contingent is the Murray Baker-trained Dundeal who returned to winning form with a vengeance in Melbourne at his last season.
Dundeal was in outstanding form in Sydney last autumn when winning the Triple Crown of major three-year-old events.
Silent Achiever and Quintessential are the other major New Zealand contenders at this stage.
