OMG! OMG! OMG! Fans of teen pop sensation, One Direction, have flooded social media website Twitter with virtual swoons and squeals of delight with the apparent news that one of the band members, Niall Horan, has arrived in Melbourne for a holiday.

A photo of one-fifth of the "dreamy" Irish-English boy band was posted on Twitter late on Monday night, with Horan apparently snapped by a fan at customs at Melbourne Airport.

It is speculated Horan is in Melbourne visiting family while the rest of the band - who shot to fame after finishing third in the UK version of televised talent show, the X Factor in 2010 - takes a break from touring.

Fans have taken to using the hashtag, #NiallisinMelbourne, to attempt to pinpoint his whereabouts.

A second sighting was briefly boasted about by a fan, Chris Maheras, who told his Twitter friends he ran into the star and shook his hand on Monday evening.

"Niall is in Melbourne and I just saw him in the city!! Everyone was freaking out!! Shook his hand. Nice guy," the tweet said.

But the tweet has since been deleted and no further sightings have been confirmed.

Calls to One Direction management have yet to be returned.
