Protesters return to Spirit of Tasmania Melbourne dock despite court injunction - Yahoo!7 News

The extension of a Victorian Supreme Court injunction yesterday has failed to stop protesters returning to the Spirit of Tasmania this morning.

A blockade has again been set up at Port Melbourne with about 30 protesters undeterred by a Supreme Court injunction extended yesterday, aimed at halting disruptions.

Protesters have been blocking freight movement on Spirit of Tasmania as part of a campaign against freight company Qube.

Demonstrators say the company unfairly sacked and suspended co-workers based in Melbourne and Devonport.

Victoria Police say they will not be making any arrests because the issue is a civil matter.

The action has disrupted freight on the Spirit since last Friday, with estimates up to $10 million in fresh produce has been lost.

The protestors are demanding the workers be reinstated.

"We've got to be able to stand up for ourselves," one said.

"We want to be able to put safety measures in to protect the worker, and also workers should be able to say if they're not feeling safe in a role."

A civil trial will be held in the Supreme Court in Victoria into allegations the Maritime Union is orchestrating the protest.
