BROWN Panther, part-owned by English soccer superstar Michael Owen, is on the Melbourne Cup trail after a resounding win in the Goodwood Cup overnight.
Trainer Tom adscombe was quick to confirm his intention to head to Australia with Brown Panther after Thursday's three-and-a-half-length success in a race that has proven to be an excellent guide to the Melbourne Cup.
Dascombe said the G1 Irish St Leger and then the Melbourne Cup at Flemington on November 5 were next on the agenda for Brown Panther.
Owen told English media: "It's my first time at Glorious Goodwood - it's always been the football season and I was normally in America or Hong Kong doing the pre-season tours.
"It's my first chance to get here and it's a real honour to have a horse that is so good and to win such a good race.
"It's a great training performance by Tom Dascombe and a great ride by Richard Kingscote.
"We thought about the Melbourne Cup last year and we were thinking about it again this year prior to this race.
“On that evidence, I don't see why we should change our minds."
