Will Sparks goes full Melbourne sound on pop remix - inthemix

With Laidback Luke, A-Trak, Calvin Harris and David Guetta among its advocates, the success of the Melbourne sound definitely isn’t limited to its hometown. Over the past couple of months, Melbourne-made bangers have topped the Beatport charts, been immortalised in Onelove and Ministry of Sound-curated compilations and seemingly spread further by the day. Now, though, the fast-rising genre has truly gone global: man-of-the-moment Will Sparks has been called on to put his touch on Robin Thicke’s chart-topping single Blurred Lines.

Earlier this week, the Melbourne sound leader uploaded a 75-second preview of his take on Thicke, Pharrell and T.I.’s 5x Platinum tune to his Soundcloud. Racking up over 100,000 plays in 72 hours, it’s clear pairing Melbourne bounce with smutty pop gold is a winning combination. What’s more, with the only other official Blurred Lines remix thus far coming from high-flying Dutchman Laidback Luke, Will Sparks is certainly in good company. You can listen to the sample below – the full thing is coming “soon”.

Last week, Sparks came in at #2 in the inthemix Awards National Top 50, scoring the industry-voted mantel for Breakthrough Artist of the Year to boot. “Twelve months ago I was hardly getting gigs in Melbourne, now I’m booked out basically every weekend all across Australia and flying three and four times a week,” he told inthemix. “It’s crazy how other states are liking [the Melbourne sound] and how it’s blown up internationally. I’ve got an American and European tour coming up soon; it’s crazy how quickly it’s all happened.”
